Does being Baptized Guarantee Entrance into Heaven?
Suppose someone was baptized 30 years ago, sincerely believed in Jesus, and claimed to receive the Holy Spirit. But today that person is cruel to family members, dishonest, hateful, and completely unconcerned about hurting others. Their baptism 30 years ago is not a license to continue behaving that way.
In 1 Corinthians 13:2, Paul says that even if he has extraordinary spiritual gifts and faith, without love he is nothing. That is how important love is to Christianity. Can such a person still be forgiven? Yes.
The Bible teaches that genuine repentance and turning back to God are possible. Some believe a genuinely saved person will never lose the Holy Spirit or salvation. Others believe a person can deliberately and persistently reject God, eventually falling away from salvation. However, both perspectives take seriously the biblical warnings against a life of unrepentant wrongdoing.
In Galatians 5:19-21, Paul warns that those who habitually practice the works of the flesh, including hatred, strife, and jealousy, will not inherit God’s kingdom.
