The Heart of the “Heart of the Bible” is you allowing Jesus to provide the Holy Spirit into your life now and into the future

According to traditional Christian teaching, the Holy Spirit is a separate, distinct person from God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. But there is an important distinction: the Holy Spirit is not a separate god or a human being. This is exactly what the Christian doctrine of the Trinity teaches.

The Holy Ghost is a distinct person - Christianity teaches that there are three divine persons:

1) God the Father - the Creator

2) God the Son (Jesus Christ) - who became human, lived on Earth, died and rose again.

3) God the Holy Spirit - who is a distinct divine person, possessing intelligence, will, and ability to act.

All three are understood to be divine, sharing one divine nature.

The Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit

The nine fruits describe different ways the presence and influence of the Holy Spirit become evident in someone’s character. The distinction is that the Holy Spirit can be working within someone even though that person has not fully developed all nine qualities or virtues.

For example, someone may be very loving and generous but still struggle with patience or self-control. That does not automatically mean the Holy Spirit has left them.

Jesus teaches in John 15 that believers are like branches that grow fruit by remaining connected to Him. A person does not need to have all nine fruits fully active at the same time for the Holy Spirit to be at work in them.

How Do I Receive the Holy Spirit?

Luke 11:9-13 - Modern American English

Verse 9: “So I tell you, keep asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”

Verse 10: “For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Verse 11: “You fathers, if your son asks you for a fish, would you give him a snake instead?”

Verse 12: “Or if he asks for an egg, would you give him a scorpion?”

Verse 13: “So if you, even though you are imperfect, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

The most important part of this teaching is Verse 13. Jesus concludes by saying that our heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. This reveals the central purpose of the passage: God’s greatest gift is not material wealth but His own Holy Spirit, who brings spiritual guidance, wisdom, strength, and a closer relationship with God. Jesus is emphasizing that when we sincerely seek God, He is willing to give us something far more valuable than earthly possessions—His presence in our lives through the Holy Spirit.
